Spiritual Warfare Against A Kidney Stone
While I am immersed almost daily in the realm of Christian counseling and spiritual warfare (deliverance) with clients, I recently had the “opportunity” to stand up and engage first hand a direct physical attack from the demonic realm. I experienced my third kidney stone torment last Friday night and here’s the account of how that went!
If you’ve ever had a kidney stone, you will know that the pain is sudden, excruciating and something you’ll never forget. My first attack, in 1985, was memorable in that I really didn’t know what was happening and ended going to the emergency room.
The words of the physician as he prescribed me medication in preparation for the next attack (the stone was never captured) ring clearly in my ears, “This is the strongest medication I can prescribe for you but if the stone’s not passed and things get bad, this won’t help you much”. He then proceeded to tell me how surgery was the next step (this was pre-sonic blasting; think of insertion of a rotarooter-type grappling hook gizmo and you get the drift).
I did not have another attack until October of 2011. It was short duration (a few hours) and then it was over, albeit after significant pain and an upchuck session.
I was sitting outside with my wife when I felt the sudden sharp pain. I hoped fleetingly that it was just a muscle pull and as I felt fear well up I had the growing certainty that another stone was at work. I began to walk around, perspiring, with the pain starting to grow and went inside the house. I prayed on my own, as I had done previously in October but to little avail. As I tried to stir up my own faith, I felt fear rising tit for tat in anticipation of what might lie ahead and sat down on the couch in our family room.
My wife, an awesome woman of God, came in the house. She was concerned for me but we knew what we needed to do. This was a demonic attack, plain and simple and we needed to come against it. She laid her hand on the afflicted area on my left middle back and began to speak to the stone and to the demons been behind it. She spoke healing and for the and for the demons and the pain to go. She did not beg for healing or release, she commanded it.
I felt the pain lessen and in a matter of a few minutes the ministry was done and she got up and left the room. I sat quietly for about five minutes and then stood up; pain free. I thanked the Lord for what He had done and went about enjoying the rest of the night. Was it a healing or a deliverance? Does it matter? The demonic kingdom is out to kill, steal and destroy and Jesus came to set free (deliver) and heal; I'm blessed either way!
God is no respecter of persons and what He does for one He will do for another. Healing (and deliverance from demonic torment) is the children’s bread (Matthew 15:21-28). Ministering in that realm has become such a natural activity for us that it was almost matter of fact. I’m not minimizing the grace, love and power of God (or my personal reliefe!) but we had to move in it for the healing to come.
Have you had similar instances in your own life where you’ve seen God move in this way when you stepped out in faith?
