Should You Talk To Demons?
Can you get truthful answers from demons?
There is some level of debate among deliverance ministers as to whether or not one should speak to, or ask questions of demonic spirits during deliverance. I have read of encounters with demonic spirits this way where the minister feels that there able to get useful information from the spirits. Typically, the command spirits to speak the truth in the name of Jesus. In this way they feel that the demonic spirits are compelled to not lie to them.
At Above & Beyond Counseling Ministries, our opinion is that conversing with demonic spirits should be avoided and definitely kept to a minimum if at all. We know from the word of God demonic spirits by natures are liars. Jesus said there is no truth in devils and even Satan is called the father of lies (John 8:44). Demons, by their very nature are liars and we do not believe that one typically get useful information from them. Are they compelled to tell the truth even when the name of Jesus is invoked? There have been some instances where we have confronted a spirit and asked about its legal right to be operating in a person’s life. We were driven to that point because of the difficulty encountered in getting it to go! Our ministry process, which involves the prayee doing homework and removing spirit’s legal rights of residence usually results in “quiet and gentle” deliverances. On those occasions where it gets rambunctious it is usually because there is still a legal right operating. Those instances are very much the exception and not the norm.
We have had numerous occasions where the spirits will try to intimidate us and declare that they will never leave but we simply press ahead without engaging in those conversations. One memorable instance for me personally involved a Skype teaching appointment where I was praying a closing prayer and declaration that the spirits would leave when we prayed deliverance. Suddenly the young man (actually one of the spirits in him) blurted out “No we won’t!” much to our mutual surprise.
Our main contact with demons should involve discerning, resisting, binding and being delivered from them! Conversing with them should not be part of the equation. They are working a plan to kill, steal and destroy each and every person, church and ministry. We hear frequently of people who have encounters with them, often at night in their room, and in those instances speaking the name of Jesus and invoking the power of His blood over them usually brings relief.
Deliverance can bring freedom from demonic torment but we will continue to do battle against them until the day of the Lord’s return or until we graduate into the next life!
