Can Christians Be Cursed?

I once read in a popular Christian magazine the statement that as a Christian, you cannot be cursed. The basis for that claim is that Jesus became a curse for us , that all curses were broken at Calvary.

Gal 3:13: "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

Curses being broken for us is much like salvation and even our healing. Provision for it has been and completed by Christ on the cross (before the cross, by His stripes, in the case of healing). However, this work must be appropriated by the hearer. Salvation is available for all but not all are saved. Similarly for healing, we must appropriate and declare the completed work of Christ for healing.

There are demonic spirits associated with curses to carry out the curse. The reality is that anyone can curse you but the curse needs an open door/entry point for the sprit to enter you and work in your life (Proverbs 26:2). The misconception that Christians cannot be cursed is one of a long list of mistaken beliefs people hold that can lead to their untimely demise. Hosea 4:6 tells us that God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge and this is certainly one of those areas where ignorance is not bliss!
